We believe in investing in our communities. CDH is involved in various pro bono and corporate social responsibility initiatives that we believe will have a positive contribution to South Africa now as well as in the future.
Hout Bay | Imizamo Yethu
On Saturday 11 March 2017, 7500 homes in the small township of Imizamo Yethu in Hout Bay, Cape Town, were left homeless after crippling fires swept through the area in the early hours of the morning, destroying thousands of houses in the process. The devastating blaze is said to be one of the largest fires to have ever occurred in the Western Cape. While thousands of people managed to save the little that they have others, unfortunately, lost everything.
A plan of action was formed for the week and within the space of two days, CDH managed to donate boxes of grocery hampers, including blankets, a 5-litre bottle of water and several non-perishable food items to some of the affected families in Imizamo Yethu. In addition to this, special boxes were also donated to the families with babies under the age of three years old.
With the support and leadership of our CEO Brent Williams and Cape Town Managing Partner Gasant Orrie, arrangements were made to make this an ongoing project as opposed to a once-off donation.
The CANSA Shavathon
Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr hosts CANSA Shavathon to raise funds for CANSA.
The CANSA Shavathon is an outward show of solidarity and support for those affected by cancer. The event also provides vital financial support for CANSA, allowing the association to continue its holistic and integrated fight against cancer.
Spoilt for choice, participants were able to show off their new hairdos. Balloons, shaving, spraying, food sales, fun, laughter and, above all, generosity were the order of the day.
Nelson Mandela Day
In unison with Madiba's affinity with children, CDHers honoured the Mandela Day initiative by visiting the Masihambisane Day Care and Lerato Laka Day Care Centres in Alexandra. The visits were a fun-filled experience with fervent activity – from face painting, singing and dancing, to having one-to-one encounters with the little ones and handing over the offerings we had for them which consisted of blankets and party packs.
Bulelani Ku Yehova Creche
Our support for Bulelani Ku Yehova crèche is inspired by our belief that everything in our community is of the utmost importance, including the wonderful little people at Bulelani Ku Yehova crèche. The crèche looks after over 100 children aged between six months and six years and is located in Delft, Cape Town.
CDH's involvement and passion to assist the community has led to positive change at the crèche.
Come Together Children's Home
In 2005, CDH sponsored the acquisition and ongoing maintenance of a nine-hectare property adjacent to Sebokeng, with two dwellings, a crèche, staff accommodation and a number of sheds and storerooms. The property predominately provides two foster homes to AIDS orphans in the Sebokeng area. Our staff also support the home regularly with monetary donations, gifts of food, clothing, books, toys and other useful items.
